Run, walk or bike to give marginalized children an education

June 5th – 7th, 2026

Run, walk, or bike several kilometers by yourself or together with others, and join together with hundreds of others to help bring hope through life-changing learning to children with no access to schooling.

Why?

Without education, millions of children are at great risk of “failure”, lacking the skills to avoid their inevitable path into hopelessness, drugs, prostitution, and crime. Open Schools Worldwide seeks to help these vulnerable children, currently serving close to 15.000 children in our projects, primarily in African countries, but increasingly also on other continents. However, there are tens of millions more who are in desperate need of “hope through life-changing learning”. We regularly receive new requests in other regions and countries.

This growing demand is presenting us with increased opportunities to help. Kilometers for Kids gives you a concrete channel to provide much-needed assistance which will directly aid these disadvantaged precious children. (Besides that, it’s an excellent reason to get out for some fresh air, exercise, and fun!)

How?

Run, walk, or bike a number of kilometers (1 kilometer = 0.62 miles) on the weekend of June 5th – 7th and commit to donate a specific amount per kilometer. Even better, contact others (friends, relatives, classmates, teachers, colleagues …) who will commit to donate a specific amount for each kilometer which you will complete (A good goal would be to raise at least $10 per kilometer run or walked).

When you have completed your kilometers, calculate the amount you (and your donors) have raised, and simply donate it below (also instructing your donors to do the same).
You can complete these kilometers on your own or invite others to also join with you to help this cause.  Feel free to share this event with others for even greater participation and help for more children.

Join Us!

  1. Decide on an amount per kilometer you will give/raise

Determine to give (and/or raise) as many dollars per kilometer as possible for the kilometers you will cover.

  2. Create a campaign

If you are in the United States or Canada. Visit this page and “Start a Fundraising Campaign”. You can create a campaign with your information and photo and share it with your supporters.

  3. Run, walk or bike

On June 5th – 7th, run, walk, bike as many kilometers as you are willing and able.

  4. Donate

Multiply the amount of funds that were pledged per kilometer by the number of kilometers you covered on that weekend, and donate the generated totals.

The more kilometers that are covered on June 5th – 7th, the more struggling children that will receive hope through life-changing learning!

$60 USD provides a child with literacy, numeracy, and basic life skills to a 3rd grade level. For example, if you raised $300, that would provide this education for five children.
